Holy Week

Holy Week begins on April 2, 2023, with Palm Sunday and culminates on Easter Sunday on April 9, 2023. Throughout this week of pilgrimage, River Road Church has offerings to help guide us on this journey to the cross.

Labyrinth Walk in the Fellowship Hall
Monday-Thursday, April 3-6, 2023

Our canvas labyrinth is a replica of the one originally laid in the twelfth century in the floor of the Chartes Cathedral in France. During Holy Week, River Road Church cordially invites you to experience a meditative walk. Written devotional material will be available to encourage your thoughtful walk. Additionally, there will be materials about the labyrinth history and it’s symbolism. We suggest that you allow approximately 45 to 60 minutes for the labyrinth experience. Up to two people can walk the labyrinth at the same time.

Times the Labyrinth will be Open:

  • April 3: 9AM-7PM
  • April 4: 9AM-7PM
  • April 5: 9AM-7PM
  • April 6: 7AM-12PM

Please ring the buzzer at the Ridge Road door to gain access to the building, then take the elevator up to the Fellowship Hall.

Maundy Thursday
Meal, Worship, & Holy Communion Around Tables
Thursday, April 6, 2023
6:00 p.m., Fellowship Hall

On Maundy Thursday, the night when Jesus gave us the Mandatum Novum (the new commandment that we love one another) and instituted the Last Supper or the Lord’s Supper, we will share a meal in the Fellowship Hall and share a brief worship around the table culminating in communion.

Even though supper reservations are closed, you are more than welcome to still join us for the service and bring your own meal. Alternatively, if you would like to attend worship only, you can join us at 6:45 p.m. If you plan to attend, and do not have a supper reservation, please call the church office and let us know so we can have seating for all.

Good Friday Service
Friday, April 7, 2023
7:30 p.m., Sanctuary

On Good Friday, at 7:30 pm, we will gather in the Sanctuary to worship and experience the service that is, for many of us, the most meaningful one of the year. We will share in a Tenebrae service, from the Latin word for darkness or shadows. This service involves hearing moving music by the Chancel Choir and the reading of the Scriptural narrative of the betrayal and crucifixion of Christ.

Easter Decorating

Easter Gift to Support the Fellowship Fund
Deadline to be listed in the Bulletin: Wednesday, March 29, 2023

In lieu of an actual lily, please consider giving a gift in honor or memory of a loved one this Easter. Your gift will be listed in the bulletin on Easter Sunday and will support our Fellowship Fund, helping those in financial crisis in the Richmond metro area via ACTS (Area Congregations Together in Service). To be sure, we will still have lilies in the Sanctuary, but we are confident that our generous congregation will give more than we need! You may send a check with “Easter Gift” in the memo line, or you may give online (rrcb.org/give-online) and select “Easter Gift” as the fund. Easter lily envelopes are also available in the pew racks. Please include a note with your check or send an email to info@riverroad.church with your wording to be included in the bulletin. The deadline for your gift to be listed in the bulletin has been extended to Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Thank you for your generosity!

CBF Global Missions Offering
A Place at the Table for Everyone (Luke 14:12-14)
April 2023
RRCB Goal: $10,000

The mission God gave us to share the Gospel in word and deed has never been more important than it is now. When you give to the Offering for Global Missions, you support the long-term presence of field personnel in 19 countries as they cultivate beloved community, bear witness to Jesus Christ and seek transformational development among people and places otherwise forgotten and forsaken by the world.

100% of your gift to the Offering will support CBF Field Personnel serving in the U.S. and around the world. You may give to the Offering by using one of the envelopes in the pews and dropping it in the offering plate, mailing a check to the church office, or giving online at rrcb.org/give-online.
