Dessert Auction
In May, the church gathered for a Dessert Auction to help raise funds to offset the costs of the youth trips for the summer. It was a huge success! The church family showed up for a BBQ dinner, and we auctioned off 62 desserts to raise over $3,000! It was a tremendously fun evening, and we look forward to doing it again. Thank you, thank you. Your help has helped ease the burden of the cost of these trips this summer.
PASSPORT Youth Camp
In June, the youth headed to Danville, Virginia for PASSPORT Youth Camp at Averett University. RRCB has a long history with Passport, dating back to the late 90’s, where as a summer Bible Study Leader with PASSPORT Camps, I met Chester Phelps as he brought the RRCB youth to camp. (Small world!) Youth spend time each day in Bible Study, Mission Projects, Worship, and a Nightly Party. This year, the camp theme was Enough and each day youth dove into a different camp theme exploring that word. The daily themes were God is Enough, I am Enough, There is Enough, and Enough Already. Scripture tied these themes together and we learned that God sees us as Enough, and that we are called to make sure that there is Enough in this world for all. We had a great week laughing and learning together. Thank you to chaperones Robert Gray and Judy Morris for all of their help.

Unidiversity Youth Camp
In July, the youth headed to Knoxville, Tennessee for Unidiversity Youth Camp on the campus of The University of Tennessee. At Unidiversity the group leaders and chaperones are asked to pitch in and help lead the camp. The theme this year was Rhythms of Grace, and the youth spent time in Bible Study and Worship exploring how God offers us the chance to rest and renew ourselves. The group enjoyed the nightly parties, and a group outing to go tubing. It was a good week spent learning, growing, and building community. Thank you to chaperones Daniel Ingram, Daniel Glaze, Scott Leake, Sandy Rooney, Madeleine McAllister, Emma Phelps, and Jerusalen Smith.

Mission RVA
In August, the youth gathered at the church to spend four days together serving around the city of Richmond. We served at The Salvation Army, with the Richmond Public Schools, and with the Richmond Baptist Association’s South Richmond Baptist Center. We cleaned kitchens, mulched, and cleaned facilities. We spent time writing notes to the church’s homebound members and making towel rolls for CARITAS guests. In the midst of the service, we had a bit of fun as well, going bowling and attending a Flying Squirrels game. It was a good week to focus on helping out this great city and build community together. Great appreciation and thanks to the many adults who pitched in to help make this event a success.
