Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) Mission Madness Weekend at Huguenot Road Baptist Church
What can 145 young people accomplish in a weekend? They can plant flowers, play bingo, and dominoes with residents in a nursing home. They can paint and clean a house and help at a Baptist Center.
CBF Mission Madness is a weekend retreat for youth groups interested in mission service, worship, fellowship, and fun!
Twelve young people and three adults from River Road joined other church groups to help better our community. We worked together, ate together, played together, and worshipped together. In the process, we made new friends and discovered new gifts of caring and sharing. Mission opportunities are all around us. We just need to take the time to see them. This weekend was one step in that process.
Having been a part of many River Road Church mission trips at home or elsewhere, I think there is no better opportunity to represent God, Church and help others, than to get involved with a “helping hands ministry”! The joy and feeling one receives after repairing, replacing or building something for a person in need is beyond words. River Road Church has the tools, trailer and truck thanks to a grant from the endowment Committee. Some years ago, I am so thankful and proud that a group of us got together, prayed about the need asked for equipment and was provided with a truck, trailer and tools in order fix or build anything. We have accomplished so much good for others, while meeting great people, having fun together. I will never forget our trips even as far as Canada and Louisiana. One funny story happened on a trip to Bland County, VA. Our leader, Dr. Lloyd Jackson needed help to cut a bolt, two of us tried to accomplish the job, we needed more hands so by time we realized that the job was finished we totaled four persons to cut one little bolt. The rest of the week we enjoyed our question and answer to the bolt cutting. “How many RRCB men does it take to cut a bolt? Four! God provided the tools and equipment, all he asks is at least four interesting people (Women,Youth and Men) who are ready to cut a bolt in his name. Try it you will be blessed!
