Reading the Bible with particular attention to its female figures is often thought to be an endeavor that only women undertake, and, in some corners, those who use the perspectives of “feminist theology” as an aid to interpreting the Bible are met – at best – with suspicion. While these ways to study the Bible do begin with the situation of women, they do not also end there. Instead, they reveal fundamental truths about all of humanity and offer insight into how to understand ourselves in relationship to God, to one another, and to the world around us. Using a few familiar Old Testament passages, we will explore and discuss how the story of the women of the Old Testament is also the story of us all.
