Did you know that your church, through the Board of Missions (BOM) budget, is helping out with Typhoon Haiyan disaster relief in the Philippines? It is happening on three different fronts.
For decades, The BOM budget has included major contributions to both the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF), and more recently also to the Baptist World Alliance. When all three of these Baptist organizations recently decided to step up their disaster response to the Philippines, then by extension, so did River Road Church.
Second, we have participated for the last couple of years with Stop Hunger Now (SHN), a food packaging event that has been hosted by Second Baptist, on the River Road corridor. We’ve sent several thousand dollars and many volunteer hours their way. It turns out that SHN has pledged to send 1,000,000 meals to the Philippines. (It also turns out that RRCB will be hosting a SHN event in the Spring of 2014, so please watch for news of that.)
Third, did you know that your BOM has for the last few years included a “Reserve” line in their budget? Good thing we did that. This past Sunday night, the BOM voted to donate $2,500, designated for Typhoon Haiyan disaster relief, through the Baptist General Association of Virginia.
The more I learn about everything we do through our Board of Missions budget, the more impressed I become.
Bill,
What is the best way for individuals like myself to make a contribution to the Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Relief? A check to RRCB, marked for this? Or a check to the VA Baptist Board?
Thanks for clarifying.
Libbie
Libbie,
I found helpful information on the BGAV website.

I used the online giving process with a credit card, and it worked fine. I also found instructions for how to mail a check. Here they are:
Make checks payable to “Virginia Baptist Mission Board” with the designation “Disaster Relief” on the memo line and send to:
