During our fiftieth anniversary year, in 1996, Mr. Ransone Hartz suggested the church consider re-establishing Youth Week. It seemed appropriate to recognize the younger generation of River Road members as the church began its “second” fifty years of history. Mr. James Richard Pruden was the youth pastor for the May, 1998 service. For the past fifteen years young men and women have proclaimed the gospel, sung, and lead in worship. Many of those young people are still active in our church, serving as teachers, deacons and as members of various boards and committees.
On Sunday, May 20th, the youth will continue that tradition. Mr. Dexter Gulick, a recent graduate of Pitt University, will be the youth pastor. The theme, “A Light to the World” reminds us of God’s light in the world and our responsibility to let our light shine for others to see. In Ireland, a small group of nuns are trying to rebuild the Convent of St. Bridget, a daunting task. Their motto is “Do Not be Afraid of the Light that Shines within You,” noble words for each of us. Much could be accomplished by individuals and the church if they recognized the light with them and rejoiced. Please join the youth on Sunday morning, May 20th, as they lead in worship.
