Daniel E. Glaze grew up in the southside Richmond neighborhood of Woodland Heights as the second of six children (4 boys, 2 girls). Many in local Baptist circles will remember his father, Rev. Dr. Joe Glaze, as he was a pastor and associational missionary for many years in Richmond (now living in Connecticut, where Daniel’s step-mother is an Episcopal priest). It was in the youth group of Northminister Baptist Church that Daniel began to explore his call to ministry, though he wasn’t entirely convinced at the time.
Daniel left Richmond to attend college in beautiful Georgetown, Kentucky—right in the middle of horse country. It was at Georgetown College that two important things happened: first, he met Andrea and second, his ministerial call and identity began to take shape. Daniel and Andrea married in 2000, and after she finished a master’s degree in psychology, they moved to Richmond for seminary. Their first daughter, Ella, was born a month after graduation.
Daniel served for 10 years as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, North Carolina, located in the northeastern corner of the state. It was there that their second daughter, Ashley, was born. River Road Church called Daniel back to Richmond in 2016. At River Road, Daniel has the honor (or is it horror?!) to preach weekly to his seminary president and several mentors in ministry.
The Glazes love living in Richmond. Andrea works as a grants administrator at the Virginia Community College System and knows everything there is to know about college basketball (especially the University of Kentucky Wildcats). Ella will be a freshman at Douglas Freeman High School in the Fall and loves music, running, and youth group. Ashley, a rising 5thgrader at Short Pump Elementary, is a talented gymnast, artist, and sings in two River Road choirs.
Last, what can we say about Daniel? He is a mediocre tennis player and is still searching for the best cup of coffee in Richmond.
