Hollie Hammel is a rising junior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a music education major specializing in both classical and contemporary music under the tutelage of Mary George. As a performer, Hollie has performed on concerts with artists such as Denyce Graves and Michael W. Smith. She has performed on auditioned recitals such as the Classical Singer’s Recital through Belmont University’s School of Music and on various concerts with the Women’s Choir. She is looking forward to being a member of Belmont’s Chorale this upcoming year. She has also been a semi-finalist for the National Association for Teachers of Singing competition. Hollie is the president of the American Choral Directors Association student chapter at Belmont and is also the secretary for the student chapter of the National Association for Music Education. Hollie has completed Level I and II out of three levels for a Kodàly Music Education Certification program. She also attended a week-long vocal jazz intensive for performers and directors with the New York Voices at the beginning of August. She spends a lot of time tutoring children within the Nashville community and spreading the joy of music with them through various after-school programs such as Cottage Cove Urban Ministries, Salama Urban Ministries, and as an intern with the Nashville Children’s Choir. With a love of children and a passion for music, Hollie is looking forward to becoming a teacher upon graduation and sharing her love for music wherever she goes.
A Richmond native, Hannah Hammel recently graduated with a BM in flute performance and a minor in music theory from The Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Alexa Still. In the fall, she will be attending Rice University’s The Shepherd School of Music to study with Leone Buyse. An active solo flutist, she has won several prestigious competitions including the National Flute Association’s Orchestral Excerpt Competition and the Atlanta Flute Club’s Young Artist Competition. Hannah has performed concertos with several orchestras including the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, Ocean City Pops Orchestra, Wichita Falls Youth Orchestra, and Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, she has performed in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Severance Hall, and Carnegie Hall. She is a finalist for New World Symphony and a regular substitute with the Richmond Symphony. She has performed at summer festivals including Round Top Festival Institute, Castleton Festival Symphony Orchestra, Hot Springs Music Festival, Pacific Regional International Summer Music Academy, Staunton Music Festival, Wintergreen Performing Arts Festival Orchestra, and Credo Summer Orchestra, where she performed J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti No. 2 and No. 5 in Chicago’s Symphony Center. Equally passionate about contemporary music, Hannah has performed with Oberlin’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, members of eighth blackbird, and organized national tours of concerts of chamber music by living composers.
