During the 2012-2013 season, virtuoso organist William Wisnom will present solo recitals at Washington DC’s The Washington National Cathedral; New York City’s St. Thomas Church 5th Avenue; Boston’s Trinity Church; San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral; and here at River Road Church, Baptist. His far-flung appearances will continue in subsequent seasons with appearances at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City and at other prestigious venues.
In June of 2011, Wisnom was a featured artist at the Region III Convention of the AGO, and was named a “Star of the Future.”
In addition to being a recitalist, Wisnom is a veteran church musician. Currently Organist at Resurrection Catholic Church in Maryland, he has previously served as Choirmaster, Director of Music, Director of Liturgy, and Organist at various churches in the mid-Atlantic region, and has appeared as organist for a nationally televised Mass at The Shrine of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Wisnom has been awarded in The Dallas International Organ Competition; The Westminster Choir College Organ Competition; and has been honored with the Dorothy L. deCourt Prize, the Bruce R. Eicher Award, and the E. Carl Freeman, Jr. Award.
Wisnom has studied with leading concert-organist David Higgs at the Eastman School of Music, and has earned the Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with renowned artist-teachers Donald Sutherland and Gillian Weir.
