Romans 8:31-39
The Apostle Paul had his own personal conflicts at various times in his life, but Paul is at his best in these verses from the eighth chapter of Romans. He starts out by saying, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Of course in this earthly life most of us experience the loss of loved ones, the unexpected adversity of disease and other dangerous forces of nature and the ultimate reality of aging and death. Personally I was attacked via an intra cellular pathway by a microscopic organism at age eleven and I never walked again without the aid of an ankle knee foot orthotic (steel leg brace). Today that microscopic organism is almost extinct from our planet. Back then lying in a bed in a polio isolation ward, somehow I knew that there had to be more to life than this helpless state of body and mind.
The uplifting part of Paul’s words are that nothing, whether here in our uncertain time on earth or within the anguish of our bodies and souls, can separate us from the love of God through Christ Jesus. Read below Paul at his best:
“For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below – there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
