Dr. George White McDaniel
Fred Anderson, Executive Director of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society and a member of River Road Church, will speak about the new book he has written entitled, My Dear Doctor Mac. The book is about the life and times of Dr. George White McDaniel, a prominent figure among Baptists and pastor of First Baptist Church, Richmond from 1905-27. He reached the pinnacle of leadership within the Southern Baptist Convention, serving as its president from 1924-27. He saved the SBC from possible bankruptcy and from a split over evolution. Dr. McDaniel lived a stone’s throw from the site of our church and used to ride his horse across the land now occupied by River Road Church. Fred Anderson’s new biography is based upon researching some 25,000 letters to and from Dr. McDaniel.
