Tutoring, Classroom, and/or Office Assistance

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed in these areas! You will encourage a love of reading, work with individual children or small groups, help teachers with stations and other activities, or assist with a myriad of office tasks. Your time at Oak Grove will be rewarding and well spent!

Food Backpack Distribution

Oak Grove Elementary has been chosen to participate in a new program which gives every child three meals each day at school plus a backpack of food for the weekend, ten volunteers are needed to help with distributing these backpacks on Friday afternoons between 2:30 and 4:00. You can commit to one Friday a year, one a month, every week – whatever suits you. Itʼs a great chance to see the school, meet volunteers from other Micah groups, and provide a huge service!

Career Day – Monday, November 21, 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Broaden childrenʼs horizons by sharing your workday with them. Truly so many of our students have no idea of the possibilities open to them! What you have to share will expand their world and give them something to think about. Come at a time convenient for you. Micah will provide lunch.

Large Book Drive in October

Please bring new and gently used books, appropriate for grades kindergarten – 5th grade students, to boxes at the Missions Tables in the Upper and Lower Commons any time throughout October. We, along with other Micah churches serving Oak Grove, have been asked by members of the DECA Club (Distributive Education Chapters of America) at Cosby High School to collect books which they will use in implementing a reading and writing literacy project with Oak Grove students. Our students will read and write about books of their choice. DECA members will encourage them in their efforts and will award certificates and other small prizes as incentives. Please help make this a successful project for both Oak Groveʼs children and DECA members.

Bicycles

Bob Argabright (Micah from Trinity United Methodist Church) continues to need gently used bikes to repair, if needed, and give to children as part of their bikeable community program. Click here for more information.

Clothing

The clothes closet is being depleted rapidly, so anything you can contribute is very much needed. Gently used is great except for underwear, which should be new. Baskets for clothes are at each of the Missions Tables.

Current needs include:

  • Girlsʼ pants – sizes 4-12 (leggings, jeans, elastic waist pants)
  • Boysʼ pants – sizes 4-8 (sweatpants, jeans, elastic waist pants)
  • Boysʼ and girlsʼ new underwear – sizes 4-8
  • Boysʼ and girls T-s
