Two big opportunities will be available for Oak Grove Elementary students this summer! If you would like to participate in anyway, please contact Susan Ryan (susanryan1@verizon.net, 804-282-6321). Donations can be placed in boxes at the Missions tables in the Upper and Lower Commons beginning May 7. Thanks for considering these needs and for supporting Micah!

Book Bus

The Book Bus will travel through neighborhoods for seven weeks on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-7:00 p.m. beginning June 20, offering book checkout and nutritious snacks to children at six stops.

The Book Bus always needs books! Gently used and paperbacks are fine. Especially popular titles are Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, My Weird School, Magic Tree House, and Humphrey. Easy readers and picture books are also needed. If youʼd like to volunteer to ride along on one or more trips, that would be great! You would help children choose books, pass out treats, or just talk with the children about their reading. Each stop lasts 30-45 minutes. Contact Susan Ryan if you want to ride.

Power Scholars Camp

The YMCA will sponsor a Power Scholars Camp for approximately 100 students. Camp will run from the last week of June through the last week of July, and will include breakfast and academics in the mornings, and lunch and enrichment in the afternoons. Fridays will be field trip days. The camp will be funded by Richmond Public Schools and the YMCA.

Donations of swim suits, goggles, and caps – gently used are fine – would really help with a significant need that arises when students take swimming lessons at the Bellemeade Recreation Center on the school campus. Swimming will be part of enrichment afternoons at the camp.
