Today’s Scripture: Psalm 36:5-11

6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
   your judgements are like the great deep;
   you save humans and animals alike, O Lord. (NRSV)

I enjoy very much scriptures that connect us with nature.  We can all look out and commune with nature.  In this Psalm, mercy is described as in the heavens and faithfulness reaches into the clouds.  I especially like the use of wings:  “the shadow of thy wings.”

I sang a little chorus, “Under His Wings,” as a child.  Under God’s wings, we see light and become the light of the world ourselves.  We cannot be completely absorbed with troubles all around us. Our selfish pride and the hand of the wicked can keep us from God’s blessings.

My dad used to say to us, “Pride goeth before a fall.”  We must praise our creator with humility.  Certainly this is an angry world where everyone is full of rage about something.  The only way for us to go on in peace and light the world with love is to look at God’s mercy and faithfulness to us.
