Chief Douglas A. Middleton was sworn in as a Police Officer with Henrico County on November 29, 1972. He has served in Patrol, the Special Action Force (Street Crimes Unit), as a pilot in the Aviation Unit, as well as several administrative assignments including Planning, Communications, Inspections and Personnel. He was promoted through the ranks within the Division of Police to his current position as Chief of Police on April 9, 2011.  Prior to his appointment to Chief of Police, he served as Second in Command of the agency for nearly fourteen years.

Chief Middleton is committed to community involvement and attends numerous meetings and events within Henrico County, giving presentations to citizens or other groups.  He is an active and long-time member of the West End Assembly of God and has held numerous leadership roles over the past twenty-years at his Church.  Chief Middleton also encourages membership, leadership and involvement by his staff in community-oriented gatherings and organizations.
