Psalm 32
Psalm 32:1 “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
In their book Younger Next Year, Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge explain that our physical bodies are biologically programmed to decay. This decay occurs from the inside out – cells die and are replaced on a regular cycle. Exercise sends chemical signals to our bodies to build replacement cells that are stronger, tougher, and “younger.” They explain that if you exercise, eat right, and live right (from a biological perspective) you can become “younger” each year. That’s an amazing promise. Their view is that with some work you can trade a life of decay and early death for a life of more enjoyment and better health.
Isn’t it interesting how our spiritual “body” can follow the same path? Satan is there every day encouraging us to sin so that our soul will die from the inside out. Large and small our sins accumulate and the accumulated weight drags us down.
This psalm reminds us that God is there and will forgive our sin if we will just ask. With the exercise of forgiveness, our spirits can become “younger” – and this forgiveness is available immediately! Are we willing to take advantage of God’s forgiveness? Will we take the time to talk to God and give up the life of spiritual decay for one that reflects the joy of forgiveness and better spiritual health? It is up to each of us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to recognize my sin, and to ask for the healing power of your forgiveness each day. Amen
