Originally published in the winter edition of the Quarterly Explorer.
Every month I pull up our Church calendar and make a list of the upcoming month’s schedule of events and activities for the monthly Explorer. Each time it amazes me how vibrant the Church is; there is truly never a dull moment. (If you’re bored, come talk to me, and we’ll see if we can find something for you to do!)
Many of you know we promote the liveliness of the Church through three publications: the Connections (printed on Wednesdays and Sundays), the e-Spire (e-mailed on Thursdays), and the monthly Explorer.
Since the summer, we have added a fourth publication: the Quarterly Explorer (what you’re currently reading!). The Quarterly Explorer does something our other publications do not; it goes beyond the promotion of our events and activities, and it tells you about our ministries and gives us a chance to reflect on our church.
The Quarterly Explorer is something that takes a lot of time and effort to do, but once it is all finished I feel a sense of pride because our ministry of communication enhances the featured ministries and gives them a larger audience than just the people who attended the events.
Another part of our communication ministry is the Church’s website (www.rrcb.org). At the end of August, we switched our web hosts and released a new website design with it. The website has a more interactive feel to it and is frequently updated to ensure those visiting (members and non members) will be able to find information about current and past events. On the website we also have a blog where all of our ministers write about their events, vacations, insights, and more.
As I mentioned earlier, we have a lot of events and activities. Not only would I like to encourage you to attend these events (wink-wink), but more so, I want you to document the events – take lots of photos so we can use them to reflect.
Communication techniques grow with technology and our church. Thank you for your support of my ministry to the church. And who knows, in ten years our Wednesday night dinner tables could have iPads instead of printed Connections!
