Children’s Choirs
Wednesdays

Crusader Choir makeup rehearsal: If you have missed a Wednesday rehearsal you are invited to contact Bob Gallagher and arrange for a makeup rehearsal on a Sunday morning between 9:20 and 9:45 a.m.

  • Cherub Choir (Pre-K & Kindergarten) [Pre-K: Must be 4 years old. Children can join Cherub Choir once they turn 4.]

    • Directed by Ken Wilson (kenwilson6@me.com)
      Ken Wilson recently retired as Minister of Music at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC, a position he held for 32 years. Here he gave overall leadership to a program of six singing choirs, four handbell choirs, and a Suzuki classical guitar program with 80 students. A graduate of Wake Forest University (as the school’s first classical guitar major), he holds the Master of Church Music and Doctor of Musical Arts (conducting) from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Earlier in his career he lead children’s choir leadership seminars throughout Virginia for the Virginia Baptist General Board. He and his wife Cathy moved to Richmond a year ago and joined RRCB.
  • Carol Choir (Grades 1 & 2)
    • 6:15-7:00 p.m., Youth Rehearsal Room
    • Directed by Suzanne Spicer (spicer.suzanne@gmail.com)
      The director of our Carol Choir is Suzanne Spicer, who grew up singing in children’s and youth choirs here at River Road. A 2007 graduate of Godwin High School, she received her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University as a Theatre Major and Music Minor in 2011. She also earned a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016 at the University of Richmond, with a focus on her Teacher Licensure in Elementary Education (General) and Special Education (K-12). Suzanne has been working at Glen Allen Elementary School as Social Integrative Services (SIS) classroom teacher since Jan. 2017. Last spring, Suzanne directed our Children’s Choir musical, Malice in the Palace, and all of our children have enjoyed singing and performed under her leadership. Suzanne also sings as a soprano in our Chancel Choir.
  • Crusader Choir (Grades 3-5)

River Road Camerata
Sundays, 4:15-5:00 p.m.
Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15 p.m.

The River Road Camerata is comprised of young singers who are willing to learn challenging choral music. They have become familiar with choral and vocal repertoire by composers such as Bach, Tallis, Byrd, Mozart, Schubert, and Elgar. The Camerata recently performed in a concert with the Boys and Girls Choirs of Washington National Cathedral. They have also sung at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Richmond. Participation is by audition or invitation, and requires a continuing commitment to Voice for Life. Please contact Bob Gallagher for more information about the Camerata and Voice for Life.

Youth Choir
Sundays, 5:00-5:45 p.m.

The first rehearsal is Sunday, September 15, 2019.
Youth Choir makeup rehearsal: If you have missed a Sunday rehearsal you are invited to contact Bob Gallagher and arrange for a makeup rehearsal on a Wednesday evening between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m.

Chancel Choir (Adults)
Thursdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Chancel Choir will meet for its first rehearsal on Thursday, September 5, 2019.
