Summer 2017

Our children and youth have a fun-filled summer! We hope your family can join us at one of these many opportunities. Details about the recreation activities and events will be provided closer to those dates. Ages and grades reflect the 2016-2017 school year. Worship Education for Kindergartners
Sundays, June 4, 11, & 18, 2017

It’s important that we provide our kindergartners educational opportunities as they prepare to join us come in worship. For example, why we worship, and what kinds of things we do in worship. During the Sunday School hour, our kindergartners gather in their classroom and then make their way to the Sanctuary, where and our ministers will take 15 minutes to speak about different parts of worship. We will also provide educational resources for parents to continue the conversation about worship with their children at home. Children will meet in their classroom and be brought to the Sanctuary.

PASSPORTkids! Camp
June 20-23, 2017
Eagle Eyrie, Lynchburg, VA

At camp, kids will discover God’s love and practice being followers of Jesus through Bible studies, mission education, recreation, and worship. All of the spaces for this trip are full! Please pray for the children and chaperones going on this trip.

Youth PASSPORT Camp
June 25-30, 2017
Averett University, Danville, VA

The work teams will work on an outreach project. In addition, there will be Bible study, worship, group devotions, and recreation. All of the spaces for this trip are full! Please pray for the youth and chaperones going on this trip.

Hands & Hearts: Family Mission Trip to Nickelsville, VA
Trip: June 25 – July 1, 2017
Registration & Information Meeting: Sunday, June 4, 12:15 p.m., UC #228

The Hands and Hearts Family Mission Trip will serve those in need in the area of Nickelsville, VA, and the projects will be determined by the skills and passions of those who sign up. It may range from home repairs and light construction, to assisted living home visitation and food pantry assistance. This trip is for children who have completed kindergarten, parents, grandparents, and any member of our RRCB church family. All youth 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Family registration is open! The deadline to sign up is June 4.

Church Family Fun & Food Truck Night
Sunday, July 9, 2017, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

The Member Engagement Committee (MEC) is inviting all friends to join us at the church on Sunday evening. Food Trucks will be in a NEW LOCATION along the front of the church on River Road serving food! Tables will be setup on the front plaza in front of the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. Along with the Food Trucks, there will be a number of activities for all ages to enjoy. More details to come, but we hope you mark your calendars for this evening of fun, food, and fellowship!

Vacation Bible School
July 10-14, 2017

Have U Seen? invites children to discover God’s fingerprints in their own backyard and beyond. Amazing things happen when children discover God at work around them! Child registration is open! Children in preschool through completed fth grade are invited to participate. Preschoolers must turn 4 by September 30, 2017.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email the VBS team at vbs@riverroad.church — childcare is provided for volunteers with children under the age of 4.

The VBS team is also collecting toilet paper rolls for the elementary craft. You may put your rolls in the bin by the stained glass window in the preschool area.

Unidiversity
July 17-22, 2017
Knoxville, TN

The group will spend time in Bible study and discipleship activities. The camp is led by adult volunteers and Youth Ministers. Recreation, talent night, and free time is also built into the schedule. Unidiversity is open to all middle school and high students. Space is limited, so see Chester Phelps to sign-up. A male chaperone is REQUIRED – please contact Kim Crowley ASAP.

Farmington, ME

We will once again return to Farmington, Maine to work at the Conference Center and at Farmington Baptist Church. The group will be lodged and have its meals on the University of Maine campus. All of the spaces for this trip are full! Please pray for the youth and adults going on this trip.
