Catch the Spirit Grant Approved!
RRCB is funding a Circulo de Costura (Sewing Circle) at CrossOver Ministry.
At a tour of the Quioccasin Road clinic in the spring, the need was presented that several women were interested in learning how to mend their family’s clothing. The FaithLink class, led by Margaret Phelps, submitted a grant request, written by Andrea Glaze, to the Board of Missions (BOM) Catch the Spirit Special Committee ($100,000 grant from the Endowment Fund). The project was approved and the small group has already begun their work!
On July 10, Margaret Phelps, Julia Nixon, Hilary Blanchard, Joyce Lesher, Norma Hays, Christie Lessels, and Judy Collins had a meet and greet with eight CrossOver clients from Brazil, Mexico, and Guatemala. Two sewing machines have been purchased and sewing classes begin on July 17.
How can you help?
Donations of sewing notions (tools) are needed. The team will gladly accept used tools looking for a new home. No fabric is needed at this time. The women are asked to provide their own thread and seam tape, and other accessories as needed – this gets them into the sewing department to see what is there and hopefully inspire other projects.
- scissors (for thread and fabric)
- fabric-marking pens and pencils
- measuring tools (measuring tapes, rulers, yard sticks)
- thimbles
- seam rippers
- straight pins
- safety pins
- sewing needles (assortment of sizes)
- machine needles – model: Baby Lock BL50A (suggested brand: Schmetz Universal)
Please bring donations to the designated bins at the Missions Tables in the Upper or Lower Commons.
