On February 2 a new Sunday morning adult Bible study will be available at River Road Church. Two distinctives will set this new class part from the other very fine existing Sunday School classes.
First is the start time. Sessions will begin at 9:30am. With an end time no later than 10:25, this will enable all those with responsibilities requiring their presence prior to the 11:00am Worship Service on any given Sunday to participate in a full Bible study and discussion.
Second is the curriculum. Initially, the class will utilize the “FaithLink” series which connects Christian faith with issues in contemporary life. As events unfold around the globe, “FaithLink” responds with a biblical perspective. Topics addressed this past fall were as timely yet diverse as the Syrian crisis, the Miss America Pageant, and the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.
All are welcome at this new venture, whether they have early worship roles or not. The door will be open from week to week to everyone. Some may need to be elsewhere early for a single Sunday, a month, or a year. Others may have an interest in the topics considered. Whether you avail yourself of a single session or engage in an ongoing basis, linking your faith with your approach to contemporary issues should prove rewarding.
Rev. Sheryl Johnson will provide the leadership for the class at its February launch which will take place on Room 104 off the Lower Commons. And, yes, the coffee is ready by that time.
Topic for February 2: End-of-Life Medical Treatment
The tragic case of Jahi McMath has renewed public attention to complicated questions about the end of life. What defines death? What measures should medical science take to sustain life? How does Christian faith guide us as we face these issues?
Topics for upcoming sessions are announced 10 days ahead of time and will be included in the eSpire.
