Adult Wednesday Night Program –
April 24, Fellowship Hall
Guest Speaker: Joani Latimer

800px-RetirementHomeWe are all aging.  Aging is a privilege.  As we age, the potential for needing help in our day to day lives – whether for ourselves or a loved one – is a reality.  Are the options out there what we want to see?  For many of us who have concerns about what we see, there is an opportunity to change that picture.  How could things look different and how can we be a part of positive change?  Are we, as people of faith, called to have a voice in promoting such change ….in helping to ensure that those who need supportive care can live with dignity and be cared for compassionately?

Joani Latimer, State Long-Term care Ombudsman, will help us examine the ways that some ‘pioneers’ are rethinking our long-term care models.  We will consider the potential impact that ‘culture change’ can have on supporting quality of life through the end of life…And we’ll consider the role that each of us can play in promoting such change.

Joani serves on the steering committee for the Va. Elder Rights Coalition and was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform in Washington, D.C. (now the National Consumer Voice for Quality Care).  She works closely with the Virginia Culture Change Coalition, which advocates and promotes deep systems change in long-term care to support person-centered care, dignity and autonomy for all elders.

This program is sponsored by the Board of Deacons.
