Thoughtful Faith Community
Sundays at RRCB
4:00-7:00 p.m.
In three weeks we will have our first Thoughtful Faith Community (TFC) night on September 17! We hope the communications that have gone out throughout the month have been informative as we get closer to the shift of TFC from Wednesday to Sunday. So far we have highlighted the new schedule; our programs for adults, youth, and children; choirs, and this week we want to talk supper.
Sharing a meal around tables is not only a highlight of fellowship in the week, but it is an important aspect of our spirituality. Whether you have supper reservations or bring your own meal, this hour of conversation and community is important.
Chef Stan Barnett
RRCB started working with Chef Stan in October 2022. From TFC suppers to River Road Preschool events to outside organizations using RRCB’s facilities, Stan has been a great addition to RRCB’s meal offerings.
Stan is a Richmond native and a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College. He has been catering for over 40 years. In 1989 he opened The Hill Cafe for a very diverse and welcoming community, and after 11 years of service is the former Director of Kitchen Ministries for St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Supper Reservations
Weekly reservations will still be required. Online reservations will open at 9:00 a.m. the Sunday before, and the deadline to sign up is the Thursday before at 4:00 p.m. For example, TFC on September 24, 2023, reservations will open at 9:00 a.m. on September 17 and will close at 4:00 p.m. on September 21—you will not be able to make reservations the day of. You can make your reservation online at rrcb.org/supper, scanning the QR code in your bulletin or on the supper table, or by calling the church office. Cash, check, or new this year–credit cards–are accepted for supper.
Even if supper reservations are closed, TFC is still open to everyone. You can join just for the program, or you can bring your own meal.
Kitchen Volunteers
A strong team of volunteers will be essential to making TFC a welcoming and enjoyable gathering for the church. We need some volunteers as described below to pitch in and assist Sunday evenings.
We have money collectors in place, but ideally, we’d like to have 4 teams of 3-4 folks who can assist the chef with the set up and clean up on a regular rotating basis. It is roughly a two-hour time commitment, 4:30-7:00 p.m. (probably earlier, like 6:30). If you volunteer, your meal is covered by the church.
Duties include:
- Setup place settings, beverage service, salad bar, and dessert table
- Maintaining beverage station, assist Stan with food service
- Clean dishes, glasses, cookware
- Clear beverage table, salad bar, and dessert table
