Learn More about Lara Teague Curry & the Memorial Fund:

Lara Teague Curry of Henrico County, VA, died unexpectedly and tragically on October 9, 2022, just eight days short of her thirty-eighth birthday. She is survived by her husband, Liam Curry, and their twin six-year-old sons, George and Jack and a host of other loving family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and students.

Beloved by all, Lara had a nurturer’s soul, one that craved and sought opportunities to improve the lives of others. In that way, Lara became a powerful force for good in both her personal and professional lives. Lara’s personal interests included spending time with her family, cooking and learning about new cuisines, travel to Italy and other parts of Europe, relaxing and socializing at her neighborhood pool, listening to loud music that she could sing along to (mostly from musicals), and celebrating special occasions, like holidays and birthdays, with her children. Before her unfortunate passing, she taught her children values that will guide them in life going forward: the importance of family, love, kindness, and genuine concern for others.

Lara was a graduate of Douglas Freeman High School in Henrico and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. After she received an advanced teaching degree from the University of Richmond, she returned to Freeman High School in 2009 as a social studies teacher and was named the Best New Teacher at that school. She was also named Freeman High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2016.

As a teacher, Lara strove everyday not just to teach world events, but to tell memorable stories that were designed to help students better understand modern society. But the stories she was most interested in were those of her students. Lara saw teaching as a means to connect with and help young people navigate a challenging part of life and used her classroom to show her students that she cared about each of their successes and challenges. As the outpouring of support and sympathy from her Freeman Family since her death has shown, she was universally loved and respected by her students, her colleagues, and the school administration.

The Lara Teague Curry Memorial Fund has been established so that her professional mission can carry on for years to come and continue to impact the Freeman Community that she so loved and where she was beloved in return.
