Who was Max Reger?
The late romantic composer, Max Reger (1873-1916) lived, composed, performed, and taught (and ate and drank!) in Germany. His music is—and has been—widely performed in Europe, but he is mostly known among Americans for his challenging organ music. His large musical output combines compositional elements of several composers he admired: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Richard Strauss. On Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m., in the River Road Church Sanctuary, Bob Gallagher, Minister of Music, will be giving a one-hour talk to the Richmond Chapter of American Guild of Organists and guests on Reger’s more accessible organ works suited for church services.
