Wednesday and Sunday Evenings
Discipleship and Choir Opportunities
The River Road Church pastoral staff has been praying, dreaming, and planning about Fall 2021. Specifically, we would like to offer a modified Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening schedule for educational offerings in an effort to respond to the needs of our congregation, specifically families with children.
With the affirmation of the Board of Christian Education and Spiritual Formation, we present the following schedule, beginning September 19:
- Children’s Music, Missions, and Discipleship programs will take place on Sunday afternoons from 3:45-5:00 pm (formerly Wednesday nights).
- No change to Youth Sunday evening schedules.
- Wednesday night supper will shift slightly later, beginning at 6:00 pm, in an effort to align better with the schedules of working adults.
- Wednesday night programs will be planned to include educational events/Bible study, mission nights, and prayers for the community on a rotating basis.
- Choir rehearsal will be shifted from Thursday to Wednesday nights to allow choir members to participate in Wednesday suppers and fellowship. (Please note: Chancel Choir rehearsals begin on September 8, 2021.)
A few notes about this—first, while Sunday afternoon will be the primary music and discipleship offerings for their age groups, we hope children and youth will come with their families on Wednesday evenings. Following supper, fellowship and/or game time will be offered for youth and children in grades K-5. Childcare for birth through pre-K may be available following supper by making a reservation with Sandy Rooney.
Second, we cannot guarantee that these changes will be permanent. After a difficult year and a half for our community and church family, we are experimenting with this new schedule and will assess its efficacy all along. As with everything else these days, this plan may need adjustments as we move into the Fall.
