Campfires. Cookouts. Creeks. Cabins. Camp Alkulana.
Camp Alkulana Offering: June 1-30, 2021
Camp Alkulana is thrilled about summer 2021! They are ready for some of their favorite activities: Campfires, Cookouts, Creek exploring, Cabin life. Even as COVID-19 still exists in our world, Camp Alkulana will still give their campers what they need: friendship, exploring the outdoors, building independence and team work, and growing spiritually. Camp could be the antidote for the stress that our children (and all of us!) have endured over the last year. Alkulana believes summer camp is more important than ever before.
Last summer was hard, but even in the challenges they resolved to continue supporting their campers. They focused all of their energy on creating a camp experience despite all of the limitations they faced. Of that experience, camp counselor Sabrina Simmons said, “One of the things that brought me the most joy was the way camp adjusted. In a time where so much was uncertain, having camp, even in an untraditional capacity, created a sense of normalcy. Seeing everyone get to talk, laugh, play games, and just enjoy the moment brought me so much peace… I saw my fellow camp-lovers struggle with the reality that we couldn’t have our traditional camp program, but I also saw that they embraced, with open arms, innovative ideas to make it work under the restrictions we had… it was about more than just those of us who love camp, it was about the kids, it was about creating a safe space, and it was about finding hope in the dark.”
They will continue to adjust this summer. They are forming camper cohorts and rearranging our sleeping areas. They will eat our meals outside on newly constructed picnic tables and sing songs from a distance. In an abundance of caution, they will push pause on some of our most beloved camp adventures (like caving and rock climbing), but in that space they will discover new activities that inspire fun and growth. This year’s offering goal for individual and church giving is $125,000. That amount will be supplemented through other fundraisers and grant funding to fund their $199,999 annual budget. RRCB has a goal to collect $10,000 for the Camp Alkulana offering.
