What about the fact that a person is a Jew only if the mother was a Jew.
Hi, Frances. Great question! As I understand it, you are correct that traditionally, a child is considered Jewish if her/his mother is Jewish (matrilineality). I believe this position is still held in the Conservative and Orthodox Jewish communities. I also believe that Reform Judaism may hold that a child is Jewish if either parent is Jewish. I’ll have to confirm this understanding with Rabbi Hal. -DEG
Carolyn Foster, my long time dear friend, has often invited me to worship with you on many occasions. She felt that “ A Walk through our Faiths” shouldn’t be missed. Again I have found my shared experience with you to be extremely informative, filled with a warmth of caring. Your discussion has stirred my desire to willingly reach out to know others in a deeper more meaningful way. Thanks to the three of you for this special time together.
