As part of RRCB’s Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Missions focus, we hosted CBF Field Personnel Missy Ward-Angalla and her husband Francis Angalla to speak to us about their work with refugees in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda.
Missy works as the coordinator of refugee women’s advocacy at Refuge and Hope International. Her group, Amani Sasa, ministers to refugee women and girls who are traumatized, abused, trafficked, and/or vulnerable to exploitation, as well as provides holistic ministry to urban refugees in Kampala. The ministry includes a shelter recovery program for young women affected by severe trauma and exploitation, a vocational training program for women at risk and a social work ministry for refugee women, girls, and families in crisis.
Francis also works with Refuge and Hope, and has begun a music and arts program there. This program has been happening on a small scale over the last two years, with only a small group of volunteers and no budget. They have worked with over 100 people with two music camps and with ongoing lessons, but have very limited space to do so (their current classroom is a bathroom at our community center because that was literally the only space left). The center is currently fundraising for the startup costs to develop this into a full-time program. This music program is working directly in conjunction with Amani Sasa and is a program of Refuge and Hope. This is the first music and arts program for refugees in the city of Kampala (which hosts over 200,000 refugees). This program would provide students with access to mentoring, hands on training in music and arts, vocational training, and discipleship. If you would like to learn about and give directly to the music and art program, you may click here.
Here are songs Francis sings when he leads worship at Refuge and Hope:

Missy and Francis led us in a beautiful time of worship on November 16, and we had the opportunity to learn about and support this good work of CBF Global Missions in Uganda. We hope you can take a moment to visit our sermons page to listen to the audio recording of this event, and that you take the time to visit their web pages to get more involved in their ministry.
A great way to know what Missy & Francis are doing in Uganda is to sign up for their monthly newsletter. You can do that by emailing Missy at missyinuganda@gmail.com with the subject line “Newsletter,” or by signing up on her Facebook page (click “Like” to follow her Facebook updates, and click “Newsletter Signup” to enter your email address to receive her updates).
If you wish to partner long term with Missy, you may sign up to give monthly or one-time here on the CBF website, or you may give through the church by writing your check to RRCB and putting “CBF Global Missions – Missy Ward-Angalla” in the memo line.
