Today’s Scripture: Psalm 19:1-14
1 The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple; (NRSV)
The first six verses of Psalm 19 discuss the wonder of God’s beauty in nature. Personally, I feel closest to God when I am standing on the top of a mountain. At these moments, it is easiest to believe in God’s existence. Everything that is great and glorious about God’s Kingdom is there to see.
Verses 7-11 of Psalm 19 explain the importance of the scripture in our lives and that it provides a pathway to God. In short, it is wonderful to see God in nature, but to have God in our lives, we must follow God’s words. For me, these verses are easier said than done. I often see my Bible lying around the house. Instead of studying it, I choose to watch T.V.
In the last verses of Psalm 19, verses 12-14, David expresses his desire to turn away from sin and glorify God through his actions. I often pray for this. However, as hard as I try not to, I know I will sin. This is when I am grateful for a God that provides infinite chances to redeem myself. God can look into my heart and know that I working to live the life God needs me too.
I pray that as you read Psalm 19, your spirt will be renewed with God’s beauty in nature, the promise of the scripture, and the unending love that God provides all who believe.
