Never stop searching, the Psalmist sings. Lent is a time of wandering and searching, a time of wilderness that can feel like a perilous journey. But whatever struggles we encounter in these days of darkness, we have an exciting promise that the Psalmist in our text today recognized: God remembers us.
We have reason to rejoice as we head toward Easter. Whatever we are facing in our lives and in our faith journey, we know that God is faithful to God’s people in an everlasting covenant passed down to us through Jesus’ sacrifice. And as we receive God’s gracious faithfulness in spite of our own failings, we are given new energy to follow Christ, just as the Israelites were fed bread from heaven in their desert wanderings.
Accept God’s amazing gift of faithfulness today by seeking to be more faithful to God in every moment. Take time to follow God’s “principles, obey God’s laws.” Make time to “proclaim God’s greatness” and let the “whole world know” of God’s unfailing love for all of humanity.
Lent may not generally be known as a time of rejoicing. We normally skip our hallelujahs until Easter, focusing instead on the more serious struggle of Christ headed toward the cross. But the Psalmist knows, and we know, that rejoicing can happen in the midst of, even in spite of, our struggles and wandering.
God, thank you for remembering me and for your faithful provision. Help me to follow you in my wilderness today and always. Amen.
